Latin Name: Boswellia Carterii  |  Plant Part: Resin  |  Source: Somalia  |  Extraction: Steam Distillation

5% Dilution in Grapeseed Oil

Sacred, ancient, and deeply calming — Frankincense Essential Oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia carterii tree, a species indigenous to the Middle East and known to grow in natural bonsai formation in its arid homeland. Its name derives from the Old French franc, meaning luxuriant, and alongside myrrh, it holds the distinction of being one of the first resins ever used as incense. Frankincense has long symbolised divinity.

Key Benefits

  • Calming and grounding — the most popular oil in aromatherapy for its deeply calming properties; ideal for meditation, stress relief, and anxiety.
  • Respiratory support — traditionally used to ease asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis, and persistent coughs.
  • Skin and beauty — used in cosmetic formulations to tone the face, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, prevent stretch marks, heal wounds, and minimise scarring.
  • Women’s health — a general tonic to the uterus; has a calming effect during labour and may help ease heavy menstruation.
  • Spiritual and meditative — long used in sacred rituals and meditation practices across cultures.

Historical Use

Ancient Egyptians burned frankincense as holy incense, used it in face masks, and ground the burnt resin into kohl — the dark powder used to line the eyes, as seen throughout Egyptian art. The earliest recorded use dates to a 15th century BC tomb inscription of Queen Hatshepsut. It was also burned to fumigate the sick and banish evil spirits.

Safety: Avoid during pregnancy.
